Corrective Exercise

Why I include corrective exercise in my chiropractic plan

Corrective exercise is an important part of chiropractic care because it helps support the changes made during treatment. While chiropractic adjustments can improve joint motion and reduce mechanical stress, corrective exercise helps retrain the body to move better and maintain those improvements in daily life.

How it works with chiropractic care

Chiropractic care focuses on improving joint function, movement, and alignment. Corrective exercise supports this by strengthening the muscles that stabilise the spine and joints, improving posture, and helping the nervous system learn healthier movement patterns.

It may be appropriate if you want to:

  • Reduce the risk of injury and long-term strain.

  • Support recovery from injury.

  • Improve posture and movement efficiency.

  • Address musculoskeletal discomfort.

  • Build strength and resilience.

  • Improve body composition and performance

The aim is to identify contributing factors that may be affecting function and to design an exercise strategy that is specific to the individual. This allows the work to be more targeted, measurable, and suitable for your current needs.

Comprehensive assessment

A full evaluation may include:

  • Postural analysis using a plumb line.

  • Postural measurements with specialist equipment.

  • Flexibility testing.

  • Strength testing.

  • Core function assessment.

  • Balance evaluation.

  • Movement screening.

  • A detailed health questionnaire covering medical history, nutrition, and lifestyle.

This assessment process helps determine the level of physical and systemic stress present, which then informs the most appropriate exercise programme.

My approach to corrective exercise

1. Ideal postural alignment

Posture affects how the body works and how much mechanical stress it experiences. When posture is more balanced, the body can often move more efficiently and with less strain.

2. Motor learning

The nervous system and muscles work together. Corrective exercise helps improve the communication between them so movement becomes more efficient and coordinated.

3. Primal pattern development

How you move matters just as much as how much you move. Practising correct movement patterns can help reduce the risk of injury and improve performance over time.

4. Advanced core conditioning

Core training is more than crunches and sit-ups. A strong, well-functioning core supports posture, back health, stability, and everyday movement.

5. Integrative health concepts

Corrective exercise looks at the body as a whole. It considers how different systems interact and helps identify when further support from another healthcare professional may be needed.

Why this matters

Many people focus on fitness goals like muscle gain or fat loss, but overlook the movement patterns and postural habits that may be limiting progress. Corrective Exercise is designed to address those underlying issues first, so your body has a better foundation to build on.

The result is a more personalised, practical approach to movement, recovery, and long-term wellbeing.
